Ballycastle Maritime Tour.
Ballycastle being a seaside town and the only port to Rathlin Island, the only inhabited island of Northern Ireland, has long had a rich maritime history and connection. Learn about the ancient harbour of port Brittas, the rich tapestry of names that has left their impression on the Harbour area. We will also discuss, the tales of Irish mythology surrounding Deirdre and the Sorrows, or the well-known children of Lir, who were banished to the sea of Moyle for three hundred years.
We will take a walk-through history right up to the present day, describing what impacts Two Worlds Wars and Revolution had on the area.

SS Templemore was an Irish Steam Coaster of 386 tons. On the 6th December 1911 when on route from Ellesmere Port for Derry carrying a cargo of Orrell Coal, the cargo shifted in heavy weather off Fair Head and she pulled into Murlough Bay. Her cables snapped and she ran aground and sank with the loss of 2 lives.
